About this addon

Description

This is a plug in for Thunderbird 3.3+ which is able to create Jira issues out of e-mails or add the content of an e-mail as a comment on an issue.
After the installation of the plug in you need to setup the URL to Jira and the login credentials in the preferences dialog of the Thunderbird extension. On a right click on an email you now will see two new items in the context menu: 'Create Jira Issue' and 'Add as Jira comment'. When you select one of them a new dialog window will open.

Create Jira Issue

When the item 'Create Jira Issue' has been selected a new dialog window will open. Now you need to select the project where the new issue shall be created. After that you need to select the accordant issue type. The summary and the description will be pre-filled with the subject and the body of the e-mail. However the summary and description are editable text fields. Furthermore you can add additional e-mail header to the description or assign the issue to you.

Add as Jira comment

When the item 'Add as Jira comment' has been selected a new dialog window will open. You need to select the project of the issue, where you want to add the comment. After that you need to enter a search pattern. This search pattern needs to be a (part-) word of the issue summary. Addionally you are able to extend the search scope, so that the search pattern can also be a word in the description or comment. While typing the search pattern or extending/constricting the search scope, the list of issues which match the search pattern will get updated. Besides that you can search issues by issue key. Furthermore you filter the result list by selecting the issue status. After the issue has been found, just select it. The prospective comment is pre-filled with the body of the email. However the comment is editable again. Furthermore you can add additional e-mail header to the description.
